So say I was a junior doctor straight out from uni.
Part time doctor salary full#
With general practice you have to remember many GPs are self employed AND HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RUNNING OD THE BUILDING AND ALL THE STAFf costs (I've removed the caps lock button from my work computer and wish I could do the same with this one).Īs a part time GP I earn more than my full time engineer husband. Ignore the silly "up to" figures and look for averages. Part time GPs earn much the same and our salaries can be googled ditto part time consultant salaries. Working as a consultant or GP locum in areas which find it difficult to recruit doctors can earn more but there is job instability and you may only work for part of the year, school holidays are busy other times less so. After that it gets complex as consultants on part time contracts can earn a lot through merit awards if they are highly thought of by their peers and private practice can supplement the NHS part time job. It very much depends on what grade of doctor and which speciality and which geographical area you are talking about.

Part time doctor salary pro#
I would imagine that their salary too would be pro rata depending on what percentage of full time that they work, but I'm not certain. As far as consultants are concerned, it seems to be similar - having certain days that a doctor doesn't work, but nonetheless sharing in the on call work. cystic fibrosis clinic only ever runs on Thursday and you want to go for your own learning. But there still needs to be some flexibility in that from time to time eg.

In my specialty, paediatrics, it commonly means that there are set day(s) that someone doesn't work, eg don't work Thursdays. Junior doctors who are part time and who work in specialties that work out of hours, will still need to do out of hours work, but a proportion of what a full time person would do. You can google the full time base salary for junior doctors of different levels (it's on the BMA website) - obviously there is then a banding supplement on top of this depending on what proportion of the hours any doctor works are 'unsociable'.

Part time juniors will then work a percentage of that, most commonly 60% or 80% of full time hours, and then their salary will be pro-rata. A full time junior doctor works 48 hours.
